Kit vs. Flodesk: Which should you choose?
When choosing an email marketing platform, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by choices. Which is right for you? To make choosing a bit easier, I wanted to compare two popular email marketing platforms: Kit and Flodesk. For context, I’m an email marketing and funnel strategist, which means I’ve spent a lot of time working with these two platforms. I won’t lie and say I love them both equally (I’ll tell you which is my favorite at the end), but I do honestly believe you can’t go wrong either way. They are both solid platforms. Let’s dive into the email battle: Kit vs. Flodesk.

An Overview of Kit
Kit* is a big name in the email marketing industry and for good reason. They offer competitive pricing compared to other platforms, are highly reputable, and have amazing customer service (expect quick and detailed responses, not just generic help forms).
Let’s take a deep dive into Kit.
🤔 Who It’s For: Kit can be used with a wide range of users, from beginners to more advanced businesses. Whether you want to send weekly emails, sell digital products, or promote a course/membership, Kit can handle it.
💸 The Price: Kit does offer a free plan for up to 10,000 subscribers, but you won’t have access to all their features. For example, you won’t be able to create email automations. BUT it can at least give you a feel for the platform before you commit. They have two other plans: Creator and Pro. Creator ($33 for 1000 subscribers) is all the stuff you’re used to - automations, integrations, newsletters. Pro ($66 for 1000 subscribers) has super advanced features for data analysis, subscriber knowledge, and more.
💻 Key Features: Let’s take a look at some of the key features.
Formatting an email is similar to a Word Doc or Google Doc. It's easy to copy and paste emails into the platform and format them from there.
There is a range of email templates and landing page templates so that you look on-brand throughout your email marketing. They have recently added more customization to landing pages.
Add one team member for free to help you manage your account.
Email automations are easy to set up, and they provide lots of tutorials to help.
Their customer service is truly top-notch.
Kit can integrate with several platforms, including WooCommerce, Canva, Shopify, Typeform, Thinkific, and many, many more.
They have a simple-to-use built-in ecommerce platform. You can set up a pay-once product or a pay-regularly subscription.
You can add email sponsorships to your broadcasts. This is essentially advertising inside of your email, and if a subscriber clicks on the ad, you get paid! These are optional, and pay per click is around $1.14.
Use AI, including Claude and ChatGPT, to help with your email marketing! With Kit MCP, you can have AI upload emails to a sequence, complete an audience growth analysis, give you cancellation insights, do a list health check, and more.
💯 Data: As a copywriter, something that is really important to me is data. Kit makes it easy to track your data by simply looking at your dashboard. Data is front and center, making it easy to analyze and collect. With the Pro account, you also get access to advanced analytics, like who is on your list and who is most engaged.
An Overview of Flodesk
Flodesk* has also made a name for itself in the email marketing space, especially for its stunning templates and simple-to-navigate platform. Its cult-like following is a bit…off-putting at times lol But people are loyal to the platform, which tells you how much they care about their customers.
Let’s take a look at Flodesk.
🤔 Who It’s For: Flodesk is great for those who are new to email marketing or just want the basics of email marketing. If your big needs are sending emails and setting up automations, this might be your best option! But if you have a course or membership and want a platform that allows you to easily integrate, track, and retarget your audience, I find that Flodesk can be a bit harder to use.
💸 The Price: Flodesk also has a free plan, but it’s really more of a “check us out” kind of thing. You can’t actually send any emails. But you can get a feel for the platform and set up your list. Their other plans are Pro and Everything. Pro ($25 for 1000 subscribers) is all the email basics - automations, newsletters, sequences. Everything ($49 for 1000 subscribers) includes their ecommerce features, including checkout pages, abandoned cart automations, and more.
💻 Key Features:
Formatting emails is like building a website page, in a way! You move boxes and sections around to create your email.
You can have two team members for free.
There is a range of email templates and landing page templates, so you can look on-brand throughout your email marketing. They do have the best email and landing page designs. I’ll give them that!
You can create segments to tag subscribers and retarget your list.

They integrate with several platforms, including Shopify, Canva, Squarespace, Thrivecart, and more.
They have a simple-to-use built-in ecommerce platform (with the Everything plan). You're limited in how you can design your checkout page, which is frustrating considering how flexible the rest of Flodesk is. But in general, the checkouts work great.
You can include custom, branded fonts and branded colors to make designing your emails super easy.
Flodesk MCP connects to Clause and ChatGPT. You can use this tool to ask AI questions like, how has my list grown or which automation converts best. Unlike Kit, you aren’t able to ask your AI to take any actions for you, like uploading emails.
Their customer service is really helpful. I’ve never had a question that they couldn’t answer. And true to what the Flodesk stans say, they listen to their audience and are always looking for ways to improve the platform. They’ve come a long way in the last few years.
You can view emails as a card, list, or calendar view. I’m not gonna lie, I love those options! It’s a small touch that makes a big difference.
💯 Data: For the most part, data is easy to collect and find inside of Flodesk. There is a bit more “manual-ness” to finding more advanced data. But the basics (clicks, opens) are there and easy to find, especially if you use the list view for emails.
When deciding between Flodesk vs Kit, I highly recommend you look beyond just the price! I see many business owners choose based on price alone - and they end up unhappy with where they landed.
While Kit is my personal favorite, I’ve worked on both (and honestly, most of my clients use Flodesk), and I can truly say that you can’t go wrong either way. Whatever platform is going to get you emailing, I’m all for it!
